NEQOS provide independent analysis and interpretation of the difference types of patient safety data (for example healthcare acquired infections, falls, venous thromboembolism, never events, serious untoward incidents etc.). Also, measurement support to the AHSN Patient Safety Collaborative (PSC).
The NEQOS Safety Thermometer tool allows Trusts to compare themselves against their peers (for improvement purposes only) as well as to undertake internal comparisons across different service areas within the Trust. NEQOS can also produce posters that summarise ward and/or service area findings and can be used by the Trust to feedback to front-line staff in these areas.
Through its' regional AHSN Patient Safety Collaborative (PSC) work NEQOS supports a number of projects which aim to improve the quality of care for patients at risk of rapid, expected physical deterioration. Though Tony Roberts, the Patient Safety Lead, it is also part of the national network.
Since 2014 NEQOS has led work across the region in collecting data on 'Serious Infection': firstly through the work supported by Clarity on care bundles for Community Acquired Pneumonia and Sepsis and more recently by producing resources which map out the relevant indicators against NICE standards for sepsis.
NEQOS has been an active participant in the work of the national network led by the Patients Safety Measurement Unit (PSMU) and has also supported trusts across the region in using the National Early Warning Score (NEWS) System. NEQOS recently conducted a survey of the use of NEWS in GP practices across the region and plans to publish a short report presenting the findings of this survey.
